The Neurosagena B-Komplex by Biogena is a food supplement with all 8 B vitamins, some in activated form, supplemented with vitamin C. If you would like to know what B vitamins do in the body, it is important to note: thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and biotin contribute to the normal function of the nervous system. In addition, Biogena Neurosagena® B-Komplex active Gold contains activated forms of vitamin B2, B6 and folic acid as well as three forms of vitamin B12.
What B vitamins do in the body
B vitamins are water-soluble vitamins. This means that, with the exception of vitamin B12 to a greater extent, the body can store them only to a limited degree. Regular intake through foods is therefore important in everyday life.
B vitamins are often considered as a group because they occur together in many foods. Nevertheless, each individual B vitamin has its own name: B1 is called thiamine, B2 riboflavin, B3 niacin, B5 pantothenic acid, B6 pyridoxine or pyridoxal-5-phosphate in activated form, B7 biotin, B9 folate and B12 cobalamin.
The following nutrient contributions are relevant for assessing B vitamins in the body: thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and biotin contribute to the normal function of the nervous system. Thiamine, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, biotin and folate contribute to normal psychological function. Vitamin B6, B12, folate, riboflavin, niacin and pantothenic acid contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
How Neurosagena B-Komplex active Gold is formulated
Biogena Neurosagena® B-Komplex active Gold contains all 8 B vitamins in a high dose. These include thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6, biotin, folate and vitamin B12. The pack contains 60 capsules.
A special feature of the formula is that some vitamins are included in activated form: vitamin B2, vitamin B6 and folic acid as 5-MTHF. Vitamin B12 is included in three forms; Biogena refers to this combination as the MHA-Formula. The composition is supplemented with vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
The capsules may therefore be of interest to people who specifically want to supplement with a complete B complex. A realistic expectation is important here: a B complex does not replace meals, a balanced choice of foods or individual assessment if symptoms or abnormal laboratory values are present.
B-vitamin-rich foods: practical examples
Even if a preparation is used, nutrition remains the basis. B vitamins are found in many everyday foods. A mix of wholegrain products, pulses, vegetables, nuts, seeds and, depending on dietary pattern, also animal-based foods is sensible.
- Breakfast: 60 g rolled oats with 150 g plain yoghurt, 1 tbsp sunflower seeds and berries.
- Savoury breakfast: 2 slices of wholegrain bread with cottage cheese or egg, plus tomatoes and rocket.
- Lunch: 150 g cooked lentils or chickpeas with vegetables, herbs and 1 tbsp olive oil.
- Dinner: wholegrain rice or potatoes with broccoli, mushrooms and a protein source such as fish, egg, tofu or pulses.
- Snack: 20 to 30 g nuts or seeds, for example walnuts, almonds or pumpkin seeds.
Vitamin B12 is found mainly in animal-based foods, for example in fish, meat, eggs and dairy products. Anyone following a vegetarian or vegan diet should plan their vitamin B12 supply particularly consciously. You can also find a more detailed overview in the article Folic acid and vitamin B12.
Use: what you should pay attention to in everyday life
For intake, the following applies: follow the consumption recommendation on the packaging. Many people find it best to take capsules with a meal and sufficient water. This makes it easier to establish a routine, for example daily with breakfast or lunch.
Typical mistakes arise less from the time of day than from irregularity or duplication. Therefore, check whether you are also taking a multivitamin preparation, an energy product or another B vitamin. Several products can overlap in their nutrient supply.
- Do not take the capsules in a higher dose “by feel”.
- Combine several preparations only after consciously checking the ingredients.
- Store food supplements in a dry, cool place and out of the reach of children.
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or are unsure, have the use assessed individually.
Intense yellow colouring of the urine can occur with B vitamins, especially riboflavin. This is initially a known observation with the excretion of water-soluble vitamins. However, if you notice unusual or persistent changes, this should be medically clarified.
Frequently asked questions about B complex
Can I get B vitamins through my diet?
Yes. A varied diet can provide many B vitamins. The key is regularly choosing suitable foods: wholegrain instead of white flour, pulses several times a week, vegetables daily, nuts and seeds in small amounts, and a suitable protein source with main meals.
What does “all 8 B vitamins” mean?
This means that the formula contains the eight known B vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12. In Neurosagena B-Komplex active Gold, they are combined together in one capsule formula.
When is a personal assessment useful?
A personal assessment is useful if your diet is very one-sided, if you avoid certain food groups or if you already have blood test results available. In everyday life, if you have persistent exhaustion, it can also be useful to take a structured look at diet, meal timing and possible influencing factors. Who may find looking at B vitamins particularly practical
In everyday counselling, it is often apparent that many people basically “do not eat badly”, but very inconsistently. A typical day may then consist of coffee in the morning, a quick bread roll, a late lunch and a large portion in the evening. B-vitamin-rich foods can easily fall short in this pattern.
A simple weekly plan is practical: three portions of pulses per week, one wholegrain product daily, five portions of vegetables and fruit per day, plus nuts or seeds in small amounts. Those who eat animal-based foods can consciously plan eggs, yoghurt, fish or meat in appropriate amounts. Those following a vegan diet should pay particular attention to vitamin B12 and have their supply professionally supported.
The Biogena Neurosagena® B-Komplex active Gold can be a targeted supplement if a complete B complex is desired. However, the basis always remains looking at overall eating behaviour, not just individual capsules.
Important note: Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. The stated recommended daily intake must not be exceeded.
